Korea's Next Top Model 5 Ep 1 Photoshoot Review: The Girl Who Needs to Eat More Chimichangas

Sooo.. I guess I cannot contain myself any longer. I planned to post my first article later next week, but I guess some other things got the best of me. Anyway, this is my first article.

I enjoyed watching Korea's Next Top Model because of the available episodes online subbed in English, courtesy of Yubisubs. All hail Yubisubs! I love it that the subs were grammatically correct. Self-confessed grammar Nazi here. Anyway..

The first photo shoot challenge for the models is to shoot their opening credits, both stills and videos. KNTM has the reputation to create the best opening credits of all NTM franchises. They even smeared mud and dust all over Tyra's tacky water shoot opening credits for Cycle 21. This is a fierce serving of FIERCE.

Generally, everyone did well. I can see that Ms Han was really over the moon because of the guys. Some models amazed me to the nth level, while some bored the heck outta me. Oh well, here's my say on their first ever photoshoot. This is slammin'.

First up is Bang Taeeun. From what I have gathered, he's one of the more well-known models in the bunch. Hmm, good thing the production team allowed these experienced models to join, since ANTM would go ballistic if an established model auditioned for their cycle (not unless it's Cara Delevingne). Moving on, I like the angles. The raised foot, the skewed arms, the tension in his arms and his stare. The stare is deep, penetrating. I can also see the softness in the lines as well. It's a fusion of masculinity by the styling and his angles and the femininity of the sort of S-line at the right side of his body. I agree with Miss Han; his face can tell a story. In the video, I like the sleek outcome of the shoot. Even if they didn't move that much, I can still see him modelling. Good job for week 1.

Next up is Shin Jae-hyuk. He has a passing resemblance to EXO's D.O. according to some netizens. I'm not really familiar with the K-pop groups, tbh. OMG WTH. My heart's gonna melt like butter. He's sooooooo cute! Like seriously. *cue fangirl squeal* Kidding aside, he's one of my bets in this cycle. In contrast to Bang Taeeun, he has striking feminine features. In modelspeak, that's androgyny. He's gonna be big if he knew how to capitalize on that. The judges said that he looked old with his pose. I say he was underrated. I like the styling for him. The lines were sleek and yes, I kinda agreed with Ms Han. A bit modelling 101, but overall a great performance.

Han Seungsoo was seen to have a mixed face (read: foreign-looking). He said that he's pure Korean. His face is a bit crumpled for me. It's as if someone crumpled his face. Anyway, I love his facial structure. He has a strong editorial face, but he's nowhere near Taylor Lautner! Mr Kim might have been suffering from people blindness. Oh goodness gracious. His video was very professional. I can see this one for a campaign with Lanvin or Chanel or Prada. High fashion, sharp and sleek. I like his determination as well. He's going to be successful.

I like Choi Jiin's gait on the open runway earlier. It's graceful, like a gazelle. *cue ANTM Cycle 15 speak: j'adore* Lame pose, the body's too thin for modelling standards. Bordering on anorexic, much? Guuurl, do me a favor and eat more bibimbap and tteokbokki. I know you're a ballerina, but please, eat some more. We don't want to send the wrong message across young Korean maknaes, right? Guuurl, eat more chimichangas!

Kim Jonghoon set the house on fire with his ab-grinding performance on the shoot. The waterworks, oh my goodness. But the first time I saw him, he gave off a gangster swagger aura which irked me at the slightest. Still, he was impressive. I agreed that his face is strong and memorable. He's more refined than Seungsoo, which is a good thing also. It's never good to be the sharpest all the time. I'm drooling on his chocolate abs. Gimme that all day and I'll never get tired anytime. Cool pose, too. Great job to the styling department! Someone has to have a salary increase here! ^^

Hwang Gippeum's hauntingly ethereal face made Tyra speak tongues. LOADS of tongues. LOL kidding. She's really edgy and spunky and sensational. I can see her in a Shiseido ad and she'll sell millions. The girl with the fiercest facial features. She's really beautiful. I saw Zhang Ziyi in her poses. She's charismatic. Perfect ten for her. She's one of the frontrunners imo. She's gonna stay longer!

Jung Donggyu's pretty stoked when he saw Tyra up close and personal, but he was a mess at runway. "You're 19 but you walked in like you're 10 years old," Tyra said in a baby-like voice. Meehee. He's a cute boy. He's like a virgin school boy who would get some experience in his school detention with the teachers. Oh, my dirty mind. O___O Looks-wise, his face is a bit common. The poses are mediocre too.

Here comes Choi Jungjin. I laughed out loud when I saw his embarrassed face on the open runway. He was paired with a fourteen year-old, for crying out loud. Ah, the shame. WE GOT THAT ON FILM! *evil laugh* The oldest guy in the bunch. His facial features are an acquired taste for me. A bit younger for his age. His photo is werk with a capital W. I love the floating in the air stance, and the overall photo is light. I just wished he had shown more emotion, but this is just right. He's like a lion ready to roar in the African safari in his video clip. Fierce and strong. Loving the booch as well.

I like Kim Seunghee's face when she walked in with Lee Chulwoo for the open runway. Yes, gurl. You're gonna be screwed when ya go back to middle school. You'll be an interesting plot for a Wattpad novel. But you have to hand her this: she's a chameleon. I like the fierce Korean badass mean girl vibe that she exudes here. Yes, she's fresh-looking and young (quite literally because she's a '99er). She's above average, surely. I'm really digging the "Regina George" pose here.

Kim Yerim and Jung Donggyu were the lucky ones to be voted the most popular pair in the open runway, and they became official wannabes. Such a pity that they're not able to make it on their own. Anyway, moving on. I'm not digging the thigh high silver boots. Her legs looked like some sort of processed meat served for dinner in a lowly suburb of Manila. I love the volume in the hair. Average pose, mediocre video.

This is Jung Sohyun. I believe she's one of the more experienced models in the bunch. Same with Yerim and Seunghee, she's average. Middling in my book. But I love her charm and her confessionals were awesome. Full of joy and character. KNTM, please hire her as a color commentator. She brings out life and happiness and world peace. Teehee.

OMG OMG OMG. MY PAPER HEART'S GOING TO BLEED SO BAAAAAAAD! It's Lee Chulwoo! *cue fangirl squeals all over for five days* One of the more famous models in the bunch, he brought the whole house to its knees during the open runway. The fangirls went all over him. Shamelessly raising my hands here, too. As he was experienced already, he gave a slammin' performance on both shoots. The pose that he did on the stairs is great. He has charisma. He has poise. And most importantly, he has my heart, soul, mind and strength. <3 <3 I also love it when he's smiling and his deer eyes are sooooooo... *loses appropriate words*. OMGOMGOMG.

Hello, my family. I'd like you to meet Jung Yoonsu. Mi buen amigo y futuro esposo. Yeeeehaaaaaw. OMG, KNTM editors, stop killing me softly! I likened him to Donggyu, with the virgin aura and stuff. Stop, my dirty mind. ^^ he has charisma and loads of potential. He's still modelling even if he's just standing. He makes me buy everything he models for. Go, oppa! ^^ I also like the inner solitude in his eyes. We can feel a force. FEELS. No, kidding aside. He has this power that can makes me stare at his face for ages without getting tired of it. The deer in the headlights aura is working for me. Snap that, judges.

This is the virgin sacrifice to the altar of gods. LOL, am kidding. Ladies and gentlemen, including PSY, Hyun Jieun! *clap clappeu* The meek one. As meek and as virginal as a lamb. The picture is like a bratty Asian socialite who went shopping in Hong Kong just to learn that her much awaited Louis Vuitton clutch went missing. All hell will break loose! She's fierce and smoldering. I like her. However, she needs to work on her personality or Yoonju will do a Tyra and turn her into Lenox, with five frames in the next shoot. Eep.

Baby! Kim Minjung. She's 17. I have yet to get used to models in their early and late 10s in this show, which is a good thing in the long run. If you start early in modelling, chances are you'll be successful before you reach the age of 25, which is the new 45 in fashion. As for her performance, I am really loving the pose with her plastic skirt. She looks so chic. I am also obsessed with her sensational posing in the video clip. She had the S-line going on. The judges raved in all directions, and Minjung is flattered. All hail the S-line! ^^

Han Jian, baby dae! ^^ The clothes are high fashion, yet her pose is a bit catalogue-ish. She lacked the verve in her poses. Too calculated and basic modelling. The face is plain, too. I want to see her more, so please don't cut her early.

My Callout Order:

Gibeum, Minjung, Jieun, Seungsoo, Chulwoo, Taeeun, Jonghoon, Jungjin, Seunghee, Jaehyuk, Donggyu, Yerim, Yoonsu, Jian, Sohyun, Jiin

Well, I guess Jiin should go back practicing the Nutcracker for the gala ball. I enjoyed writing this review, and I hope that you had fun reading this too. Have a great day! ^^
